The Game Tutor Grades Bad Ass Babes

So I started making a video review but then quickly realised a video review of Badass Babes was going to be 5 minutes of censored logos… so here we are.

From the off Bad Ass Babes has got to be one of the rudest, sexualised and crudest games I have ever played but I have got to be honest it is strangely compelling.

The game is from small indie dev Thatcher Productions and while the game is their first release on Steam they have produced a couple of free scrolling beat-em-ups before most notably a Tree House of Horrors game based on the Simpsons Arcade game and an Evil Dead game both of which I would recommend downloading (links below).

If I had to describe the game I would say it a softcore exploitation early 80s Pulp game. There is a lot of nudity in the game but nothing too bad but either way it was enough to make this a written review rather than a video one.

Bad Ass Babes is a pretty traditional side scrolling beat ’em up in the vain or Final Fight or Streets of Rage. The game features digitised sprites of girls and zombies and looks like something that would have been at home on the Sega CD or the 3DO. You choose your Bad Ass babe (that are unlocked as you travel through the game) and of you go. The levels are broken up with shooting sections that are very reminiscent of 90s light gun game Lethal Enforcers and bike driving sections that oddly are probably the most polished sections of the game.

Controls are reasonably simple and end with imaginative special moves linked to a meter that I must be honest I couldn’t for the life of me work out how to do except when they just seem to happen.

The game is relatively short being beaten in under 2 hours (pretty common for the genre) and unlock-able after that are a number of extra modes.

So let’s be honest this isn’t an amazing game… hell it isn’t even good gameplay wise as other games in the genre… but… and it’s a big but… the game is very enjoyable. We often say that we can avoid cheesy B-Movie Horror movies, well this is a cheesy B-Movie game that actually kind of works. If you are a fan of the genre and fancy something a bit different this is definitely worth picking up especially if on sale.
